Booster Boxes, Sleeves, Deck Boxes & More
New to Japanese Pokémon cards?
You may have seen booster boxes, card sleeves, deck boxes and playmats — but what are they actually for?
Here’s a simple guide to the most common Japanese Pokémon card products.
Booster Packs & Booster Boxes
Booster Pack
A small pack of randomly selected cards from a Pokémon set. Perfect if you enjoy opening packs and discovering what you get.
Booster Box
A sealed product containing multiple booster packs from the same set. It's a popular choice for collectors who want to explore a Japanese Pokémon expansion.
Best for: Collectors who enjoy opening packs and discovering new cards.
Card Sleeves
Card sleeves help protect your cards from scratches, dust and everyday handling.
But they're not just about protection. Japanese Pokémon sleeves come in many different designs, making them an easy way to add personality to your deck or collection.
Best for: Protecting cards while adding your own style.
Deck Boxes
A deck box keeps your sleeved cards together and makes your deck easier to store and carry.
With so many Pokémon designs available, your deck box can be practical and personal.
Best for: Players who take their decks to games or events.
Playmats
A playmat gives you a dedicated surface for playing Pokémon TCG and helps keep your playing area organised.
And, of course, the artwork can be just as enjoyable as the game itself.
Best for: Players and Pokémon fans who want to make their playing space their own.
So, Which One Do You Need?
You don't need everything.
Want to open cards? → Booster Box
Want to protect your cards? → Sleeves
Want to store your deck? → Deck Box
Want a better playing setup? → Playmat
And you can always mix and match.
That's part of the fun of collecting Japanese Pokémon products — there's no single right way to enjoy them.
Start With What You Like
Maybe it's a Japanese booster box from a set you love.
Maybe it's a Pikachu sleeve that catches your eye.
Or maybe it's simply a playmat with artwork you can't resist.
Collect what you enjoy, protect what you keep, and make your collection your own.
